Han. M. J. Savage, who was still absent from the'House yesterday, said, in -a written answer, that the relation between the market prices ar.d she retail prices in Britain, as .shown 'by the average official weekly quotation* of the London Provision Exchange for the 11 weeks ended July 7, ware:—
New Zealand 'butter.—Average weekly market quotation. 114 s 3d pei cwt; average retail .price. 12Ss 2d This shewed a margin of 13s lid pei cwt., or 'approximately lid per lb. Danish (butter. —Average rr.arkequotation, 124 s 6d; average re'tai price. 140 s, showing a margin of 15s 6c a c\v t.. or approximately ljd per lb.
On these figures there -was a margin it l favour cf New Zealand 'butter of id per Lb. •Mr. Savage 'added 'that the Government, through the London office of the Marketing Department, was continuing an 'active publicity campaign to keep New Zealand Lout ter and cheese before file consuming public of Britain cad so further to reduce the margin between the market prices of New Zealand and Danish butter.
