J obson —Shanks .Model down 01 Ivory Satin A picturesque wedding cl interest to a wide circle of mends was solemnised at the Matawhero Presbyterian Church on Thursday evenin'}, when Alice Margaret, daughter oMr. and Mrs. H. It. Shanks, vVaingake, was married to Jameo Dixon, son of Mrs. Jobson and Jhc iate Mr. \\ r . Jobson, Opouhma. The. ceremony was performed b;. the Rev. it. B. Spence, and Mrs. W. Livingston presided at too organ. Decorations of white japonica ana spring flowers, artistically '-arrange, by girl friends of tire bride, formet a charming setting for the brida. party. The bride, who was escorted b> her father, wore an exquisite nrodei gown of ivory satin showing a deep lace yoke and sleeves, and a cow neckline accented with a beautifm old cameo brooch. The skirt swept into a graceful train inlet with lace in a floral design. Her veil of ivory tulle was appliqued in satin in true lover's knots and caught with a headdress of ivory gardenias find tiny lilies. Gold and ivory sandals were worn with stockings to tone, and <■ lovely bouquet of Christmas roses ivory-tinted bingmansia and cobeia, intermingled with touches of gold and maiden hair fern, was carried. Picture Frocks of Taffetas The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Janet Shanks, her cousin, Miss Lesley Shanks, and Mis:Margaret Jobson, cousin of the bridegroom. Each wore a picture frock of lilac taffetas designed with a corded tiered skirt and a matching bolero. A short blue tulle veil held in place with a topknot of lilac and blue flowers made an attractive headdress, and silver sandals were worn. An exquisite floral fan composed o. lilac Christmas roses and blue irises backed with blue tulle and tied with pink, blue and silver streamers was carried, and each maid wore the bridegroom’s gift, a cameo ring. Mr. Robert Shanks, brother of the bride, was best man. and Mr Leonard Shanks, brother of the bride and Mr. Peter Livingston were groomsmen. The bride and bridegroom were piped out of the church and also at the reception by Mr. W. Watson. Delightful Reception After the ceremony a delightful reception was held at Le Grand Cafe.
Supper was served at flowerdecked tables, file handsome threetier wedding cake, made by Mrs. F. Friar, aunt of the bride, forming an effective centrepiece on the bridal table.
Mrs. Shanks, mother of the bride, was wearing an elegant gown of black georgette ornamented with lacc and tiny diamante studs, with a matching hat and a fur coat, a bouquet of crimson rosebuds intermingled with berries and backed with gold leaves completing her toilette. Mrs. Jobson, mother of the bridegroom, wore a graceful frock o*' wine-coloured embossed georgette, a hat +o match and a short fur coat Her bouquet was composed of pink and lavender erica and bourgainvillea. ' The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a dressing case. The bride travelled in a smart twopiece suit of navy blue wool with trimmings and scarf of pale blue navy blue acessories and a musquash coat. The flowers of the bridal partv were artistically arranged by Mrs. J R. Read and Mrs. L. C. Leggatt. Business and Professional Women’s Club On Tuesday evening Miss R. Pocock presided over an attendance of 5a members at the fortnightly meeting of the Gisborne Business and Professional Women’s Club, held in Le Grand Cafe. The speaker for the evening was Dr. Theo. Hall, who gave an interesting talk on her experiences in Berlin and Scandinavia in the course of a tour abroad last year. It was announced that Miss IT. Winters would take the chair at the next meeting. Buffet Dinner Party The delightful buffet dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. W. D lVlorley. at their riverside home on Thursday night, provided a pleasant prelude lo the Golf Club Ball. The decorations were artistically carried out with sprays of japonica. and large fires radiated comfort. The charmingly-arranged table in the dining-room was adorned with daphne. The hostess was wearing a smart frock of ofl-white cloque printed in a conventional design in red and black, and a coatee of red velvet.
Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Cairns, Mr. and Mrs. A. M Welham, Mr. and Mrs. A. AY. Harper, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Tuke, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. N. Corson. Mr. and Mrs. P. Scammell, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Excell; Miss Mills; and Mr. McGregor. Jolly Dinner Party A number of friends gathered at the home ot Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bull. Iranui road, on Thursday night, for a jolly buffet dinner party prior to the Golf Club Ball. Lovely sprays of deep rose-coloured blossom, combined with pastel-tinted flowers, gave a spring-like air to the drawing-room, and a large fire completed the cosy atmosphere. The dining-room was gay with Iceland poppies and brillianlly-hued berries, a bowl of bulbs being used with artistic effect in the adornment of the table. Mrs. Bull wore a smart frock of black moire taffetas accented with a corsage spray of crimson roses. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. N. 11. Bull, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Revoll. Mr. and Mrs. Shackleton, Mr. and Mrs. If. C. Nolan, Mr. and Mrs. J Stout. Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Baigcnf. Mr. and Mrs. C. If. Wells, Mr. and Mrs. 11. L. Primrose, and Mr. and Mrs. Adams.
