WAIKATO STOCK MARKETS
BRIGHTER TONE IN SHEEP The weather in the Waikato during the past' week has been the most r severe so far experienced this winter. From now on farmers will have to draw on their reserves of hay ensilage to hold their stock in good condition. So far the bad weather has not been reflected in the stock market, and business has remained buoyant in all sections.
At the Morrinsville centre the first entry of store steers for some weeks was penned and attracted a good attendance of buyers. Competition was keen and prices were in advance of those obtained at previous sales. For-ward-condition three-year Polled Angus steers sold from £7 16s to £B, and lighter-conditioned two and a-half-year steers sold for £6 13s. The brighter tone which has been apparent in the store sheep market was well sustained at the central yards on Tuesday, when an offering of 1000 white-face wether hoggets was penned and sold under steady competition at prices ranging from 10s to 13s.
