SEASON'S PIE ST LAMBS FAT SHEEP IMPROVE Ewes with lambs made their, first appearance this season at the Matawhero saleyards to-day, when the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’, Association held its weekly sale before a fair attendance of the public. A line of 56 ewes and 36 lambs realised 16s lOd. Beef There was a keen demand for finished s'orts in the fat cattle section, best station cows reaching £6 15s and the best price for a Jersey being £5 11s. Medium-finished station cows brought £5 11s, and unfinished £4 11s. Medium weight bullocks sold for £7 2s 6d to £7 ss. The vealers yarded were small, and made from £1 4s to £1 13s. The individual pen prices were: —
Cows.—Fair, unfinished Hereford, £4 11s; 9, good Hereford and Shorthorn, including 2 heifers, £6 15s; 5, medium finish; Hereford, £5 11s; 9, Hereford, including 3 heifers, fairly good finish, £5 1 Is; 7, as last, £5 7s 6d; 1 good Jersey, £5 11s; 1 good dark Jersey cross, £3 17s; 1 medium Jersey, £1 15s; 1 small medium Jersey, £2 6s: 1 good small Jersey, £3, l'3s. Heifers.—One small Jersey, £3 9s; 1 ditto, £2. Bullocks—One medium weight red, £7 ss; 1 ditto, P.A., £7 2s 6d. Vealers. —Three, Hereford cross, small, £1 13s and £1 4s. Fat Sheep There was a full yarding of fat sheep and the market showed some improvement. The bulk of the ewe entry sold from 12s to 14s Gd, with a few at 8s to 9s 3d. Wethers at 13s 4d were hardly up to store value. One or +wo single wethers made up to £l, while extra good lambs sold at 15s 4d, with others to 11s 6d. Prices:— Ewes. —Twentv, at 8s 6d; 9,9 s; 24. 8s; 20, 14s Gd; 20, 14s; 24, 13s 6d; 20, 13s; 21, 14s; 23, 8s; 23, 12s; 12, 9s 3d; 6,12 s. Wethers.—Twenty-six, at 13s 4d; 1. extra good, £1; 1,16 s; 2, extra good, £l- - at 11s Gd; G, extra good, 15s 4d; 6. medium, 8s Gd: 8, good size, 11s 3d; 19, medium Southdowns, 9s; 5. 11s. Second-grade Ewes.—Twenty-five, at 7s 9d; 11, 8s 4d; 23, 7s; 22, Cs Bd. Store Sheep For a .small yarding of Store sheep the values showed rJa change on la Hit week’s rates. The entry consisted
mo-dlly of .breeding ewes, which made up .to 15s, the next highest price being 12s. Medium sorts realised from 6s 3d to Bs, and .poor 5s 6d. Wethers were sold at 12s 3d, 13s 6d and 14s. Only one pen of hoggets was offered, making 6s lid. Prices:—

Breeding Ewes.—■ Ninety-four, G-ye'ar with teeth in good order, Southdown rant's, 10's; GB, poor condition, good •teeth, ss; 57, not above 5-ye'ar, Romney rams, store condition, 9s; 391, on account of Mr. K. 'Cameron, Southdown rams, no stated age, good size and condition, forward in lamb C.p), ll's 3d. sold later at 12s; 41, English Leicester. Southdown rams, good teeth and store condition, 6s 3d; 93, Southdown rams, no stated age, ‘tore condition, 5s Gd: 04, mostly 4, C and 8-tooth. Southdown Pams, ii good condition, heavy in lamb, 'lss; 93, Southdown rams, all fair teeth, good store condition, Bs. Wethers. —One hundred and fiftyeight, average size, store condition, 12s 3d; 228, Papakurakura station, top's of last lot. 14s; 54, many fat, a good solid pen, 13s 6d. Ewes arid Lambs.—Fifty-three ewes, full of .condition, 36 Southdown lambs, balance of ewes to l'amb being mostly 4, 6 and 8-todth, 'a good line, 16s lOd.
