GOOD INCREASE
COMPETITIONS ENTRIES FESTIVAL IN AUGUST A great revival of interest in Competitions is shown by the number a'.id variety of entries received by the Gisborne Competitions Society for the festival which is to .be held .in Oho first week of the school holidays next month. In all. 795 entries .Wave .been received, compared with CIO last year, these .being divided into the various sections as follows: Choirs and t'h’o ruses, 11; instrumental music, 02; singing. IG4; elocution, 195; dancing, 363. A pleasing feature and one which should add greatly to public interest in the festival is the number of competitors from outside the district. The secretary reports that 12 competitors have entered from Napier avid Hastings, three from Masterton. and competitors are coming also from Wellington, Palmerston Worth, Dannevirkc and Pukek’ohe. In addition, the Tolag'a Bay School and Whangara avid Nnhaka native schools have entered children's choirs, and also .have sent in a number of individual entries. Sections such as combined ballet's, comedietta, .and 15-minute entertainments are well tilled and will provide a variety of programme which should make the festival an outstanding attraction and of great interest to the public. Thirteen .ballets have entered in the three sections, and combined effort's such as these indicate a real revival of keenness on the part of teachers and competitors.
