Frost in Gisborne A frost of 4.7 degrees was experienced in Gisborne last night. Name of Poverty Bay The lead set by the Herald in eliminating the name of Poverty Bay from ts title was mentioned at the annual neeting of the Poverty B'ay Bowling Blub last night, when a suggestion was made that the c'lu’b might see Jit to follow the Herald’s example. Mr. D. G. Robertson submitted the proposal to the meeting, which, h’owever, did not consider the time opportune to promote a discussion on the matter. Club Member Farewelled A member of the Cosmopolitan Club, Mr. L. W. Patterson, who leaves Gisborne to-morrow morning for Wairoa, ,vas farewelled at a gathering of club combers last evening. Eulogistic reference 'Was m'a'de by the president, Mr. C. W. Batson, to Mr. Patterson’s work in the orchestra since its inception. On behalf of the members of the orchestra, Mr. T. W. Lighten presented Mr. Patterson with a small gift as a token of the esteem in which he was held by his felTow members. Southern Highway Improvements The deviation on the GisborneMtorere highway nc'ar Ba rt lolls, including the new three-sphn reinforced concrete 'bridge over the Mangakniwharangi Stream, is now open for traffic. Motorists travelling on this route -will greatly appreciate the improvement provided by the mew alignment of the highway. General satisfaction will bo felt at the elimination of the awkward approach on the Barf!efts side of the old wooden bridge crossing the stream at the foot, of Ktapua Hill.—(Special.

Saving of £25,000 a Year By operating its own workshop at Tenuika, where all mechanical equipment used on the big undertakings in Canterbury is repaired, the Public ;Forks Department, is making a saving c £25,000 annually over the east of the parts which would otherwise have to be imported. This was stated by the Minister of Public Works,the lion. R. Semple. Ninety men are employed there, and only four were killed titters when the workshops
