RACING CAR ABLAZE

Jenkins, the well-known racing driver, suffered serious burns when his automobile caught fire during a 24-hour endurance run. The car. which had been circling the 121-mile track with an average soeed in excess of 170 miles an hour, burst into flames when petrol in the cockpit was ignited and the car was travelling at its highest speed. Jenkins returned to the pit. where the crew, including his sen Marvin, extricated .him at considerable risk. The driver was rushed to a hospital at Salt Lake City. 185 miles away. The physicians said he was suffering from* bums to his right arm, and leg.
Jenkins, at the 500-mile mark, had exceeded 'hi: own records, reaching an average of 171.31 miles an hour for the distance -and 171.41 for the three-I: c u.r period.
