WAIROA BOWLING CLUB t ANNUAL MEETING HELD AIAN-Y SUGGESTIONS (Special to tlio Herald.) WAIROA. this day. Judging by the optimistic note struck a't the annual meeting of the Wairoa Bowling Club, held this week, the coming season should lie one of the best on record. There was a fairly good attendance of members and intending members, the president, Mr. W. A. Grarer, presiding. Commenting on the annual report and statement of accounts, the president said that the club had experienced a successful year, in that it had reduced the overdraft by £ls Bs. Mr. O. J. Pinel stated that the position was highly satisfactory, but that was due largely to the entertainment side of the club. It was, in ins opinion, a great pity that there was not a larger membership. The club possessed two playing greens, but it bad very few members to occupy them. Election of Officers The following were elected to hold office for the ensuing year: Patron. Dr. G. Hallwright; president, Mr. W. A. Crarer; vice-president, Mr. K. Stuart; secretary, Mr. R. E. Coleman: treasurer, Mr. L. Ebbitt; hon. auditor. Mr. J. Murray; committee. Messrs. E. Pemberton, A. J. Bennett, J. Osier, jun., R. E. Lunny, L. E. Galbraith, E. Winter, and W. T. Peat; green supervistors, Messrs. L. E. Galbraith, K. Cooke, and C. G. Newall; sole selector, Mr. L. E. Galbraith; classification committee, Messrs. L. E. Galbraith, C. Kendrew, and E. J. Cook: beautifying committee, Messrs. H. Prebble, Buckingham, W. T. Peet, and Dr. Tlal-1-wright; delegates to East Coast Bowling Centre. Messrs. C. Corlctt and T. F. Crawford. In thanking the club for ro-clceting him president, Mr. Crarer paid a tribute to the work of the committee and the secretary during the past year. During the coming year ho felt certain that with the railway service functioning the club must go ahead. He visualised many more visits from outside clubs as a result of the service.
Seven new members were elected. After considerable discussion, it was decided that the annual subscription remain the same as last year, £3, and 1/- insurance.
A suggestion was made by Mr. W T. Peet that the club should consider staging a returned soldiers’ tournament, and if it proved a success the fixture could become an annual one. It was decided that the question of a war veterans’ tournament to be held at Easter be a recommendation to the incoming committee. It was •pointed out that with the railway facilities at. present operating, there would be good support forthcoming from Hawke's Bay and the East Coast. A further recommendation for consideration by the incoming committee was that the club have an intermediate championship, it was stated that after leaving junior status a player had nothing to look forward to until he could compete with the champions of the club.
