CONTROL OF N.Z. RUGBY
PREPARATIONS FOR TOURS MEETING OF UNION GRANT TO POVERTY BAY (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Fiji Rugby Union advised the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union last -night that the itinerary for the tour of New Zealand was acceptable and it was desired that the entertainment of the team should be as simple as possible. The team would arrive -at Auckland on August 21. Mr. S. -S. Dean stated that as the South African Rugby Board h-ad stated that the Springboks would not play .four test matches on the next tour of New Zealand, it was unlikely that the New Zealand team would play four tests in South Africa next year. It was decided that a sub-committee should -meet next Wednesday to arrange matters in connection with the All Black’s tour of South Africa. The president of the Ashburton union, Mr. N. de G, Robilliard, who is the -manager of the Ashburton team at present touring the North Island, waited upon the executive and asked for a grant of £IOO toward the expenses of the tour, which had cost £264. He -said that the expenses had been cut down to the minimum, the team having travelled second class in the steamier express. it was decided to make a grant of £IOO.
It was decided to make a grant. of £25 to the Poverty Bay Rugby Union towards the expenses of conducting a primary tournament at Gisborne, commencing on August 22, and to increase the grant to £4O providing East Coast and Wairoa schools were included.
