Motor Mechanics’ Ball

UNIQUE DECORATIVE SCHEME

The unqualified success oi' the first annual ball held by the motor mechanics of the district in the City Hail on Tuesday night was a happy augury for future occasions.

Mrs. C. Dominey’s frock of mauve tulle was accented with touches of silver; Mrs. W. T. Cooper, rose pink embossed georgette; Mrs. Sawyer, frock of copper-coloured ring velvet; Mrs. Warren, black cloque with goi tr.minings; Mrs. McKenzie, frock of black taffetas, and coatee of matching velvet: Mrs. Payne, fuchsia-coloured figured taffetas; Mrs. Geddes, frock of cerise taffetas, and a fur cape; Mrs. F. Mulligan, honey-coloured Swiss organza with brown velvet accents.

The function was a merry affair, well patronised, and having an air oi gaiety that must have delighted the promoters, who were complimented on the gratifying result of their efforts.

Feathery greenery was advantageously placed in the corners of the ballroom, and a canopy of green and crimson streamers fluttered overhead, while graduated streamers, terminating in a narrow border across the footlights, adorned the wall on either side of the stage.

The stage was converted into a unique orchestral dais, in the form oi a large motor car painted in a futuristic design, and was an outstanding feature of the decorative scheme.

The programme was supervised by Mr. L.'Scott, the keen, frosty atmosphere being an added stimulus to dancing. The music was supplied by Stuart Sheet’s orchestra, and a pianoaccordion band, comprising Messrs. Fleming, C. Salmon, H Patterson, J. Thorburn and M. Cameron, contributed the extras.

A delectable supper was served upstairs, at tables beautified with gold and palest green streamers.

The effective decoration of the stage was the inspiration of Mrs. J. Bardwell and Miss C. Bayliss, who had the assistance of a willing band of helpers. The committee responsible for the successful organisation of the function included Messrs. R. Barclwell, chairman, R. Wynne Jones, secretait, F. Weber, J. Gunn, J. Gordon, L. Brown, J. Callaghan, T. Welsh, and L. Scott.
