CURRENCY OF CHINA

DEPRECIATION QUERY NECESSITY FOR SECRECY ANSWER IN COMMONS (Klee. Tit. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, July 25. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, was asked in the House of Commons whether lie had noted the further depreciation in the exchange value of the Chinese dollar and whether the resources of the currency stabilisation fund had now been exhausted.

Sir John Simon replied that the questioner would, he thought, appreciate that secrecy must be observed in regard to the current position of the Chinese currency stabilisation fund, just as in the case of our own or other exchange equalisation funds. Further questioned as to whether the Government still regarded it as a British interest that the exchange value of the Chinese dollar should be maintained, Sir John Simon replied that he could not add to his previous answer, but that, no further action was under consideration at the present time.
