The American tennis player, Malco, defaulted in the singles and doubles at the opening of the Seabright tournament to-day, but on the insistence of Mr. Walter Pate, the nonplaying captain of the Davis Cup team, lie is re-entering the doubles. Mako pleaded that he was suffering ,from a back injury, and said he could not play for a .fortnight, but Mr. Pate instructed him to make himself available and asked the tournament committee to include Mako and Sabin in the doubles draw.

Every important contender for the American team has entered —Riggs. Mako. Grant. Cooke. Parker, ,Mull'oy and Sabin are seeded in that order
