Fine Distinctions
In former days when theft was a capital offence, lawyers got busy and brought forward all sorts of very fine distinctions as to what was, and was not, theft, said-Mr. Justice Blair in the Palmerston North Supreme .Court. It had been held that an embezzler was not a thief, but nowadays he was only an ordinary common or garden thief. In former days he used to be a sort of high-grade thief. “Nowadays,” added His Honour, "we have got rid of all that fancy stuff.”
