Former Borough Employee The death of a former employee of the council, Mr. E. Heikel, was the subject of a vote of condolence, addressed 'to his widow and. family, at last night’s meeting of >the Gisborne Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., stated 'that the late Mr. Heikel had been a good employee of the council for 15 years.

Whose Responsibility? “Who is going ito bear the responsibility 'for this?” asked Cr. 11. H. De Costa at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council, when drawing attention to the fact that several houses in the State block were some inches below the footway levels. The 'Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., stated that the error had 'been made by the 'builder of the houses, who had been supplied with the permanent levels toy the council. He understood that four houses had been built on levels which were 18in. in error. It was no responsibility of the council, however, the Mayor added.
