VELDT VETERANS
WORK OF PAST YEAR ANNUAL REPORT MADE i T,h:e question of representation at the Dominion conference of the South African Veterans’ Association, to be held in Christchurch at the end of August, will be discussed by Gisborne veterans- ait the annual meeting of the Gisborne branch, to be held on Saturday night.
An intimation to this effect is given in the annual report of the Gisborne branch, it being pointed out that a suggested general assembly of Boer War veterans ?s to be held in Wellington during the centennial celebrations. The report states that it is proposed to hofQ a parade and march past in Wellington, with an officer who took part in the South African campaign taking the salute.
Membership of the branch is shown to be satisfactory, but it is pointed out that there are still many veterans residing in Gisborne who have not yet joined up. A successful picnic was held during the year, but rain in the afternoon of Labour Day, the day selected for the picnic, caused its early curtailment.
Parades were held on Anzac Day and Vereeniging Day and were well attended, while the annual reunion, although affected by bad weather, proved to be an enjoyable gathering
The passing of Veteran Grahame Jloihnstone, No. 809, Third Contingent, and Veteran E. A. Skcet, No. 3543, Sixth Contingent, is noted with regret, as also is that of an honorary member, Mr. Tom McKay, an ex-sergeant of the Senforth Highlanders and a veteran of two campaigns.
Appreciation to all who assisted the branch during the year is mentioned, and the loyal co-operation offered to the committee is also stressed.
