Mr. 11. L. Hume, civil engineer, Wellington, has left for San. Francisco on a Commonwealth Trust Service Scholarship to spend two years in -the United States.
Mr. R. J. Young, Napier, has been appointed to the staff of the Wairoa Post Office, and is expected to arrive in .a few days to take up his new duties. —Special. An engagement is announced between Settimio (Tim), youngest son of Mrs. Nigro and the late Mr. V. Nigro, Gisborne, and Joyce Sylvia, eldest daughter of Mrs. Perston and the late Mr. H. C. Perston, Gisborne. Mr. P. S. Larcomb, Palmerston North, lias been appointed a past assistant grand director of ceremonies of the Masonic Grand Lodge of England. This is an honour but rarely conferred upon a. New Zealand member.
Mr. O. H. Cross, of the staff of the Wairoa Post Office, whose marriage to Miss M. Crarer, Wairoa, took place on Saturday, was met by his colleagues at a delightful function on Friday evening. On behalf of the post office staff, the postmaster, Mr. T. J. Morrison, presented the guest of honour with a set of kitchen utensils and wished hlim the greatest happiness in the future. —Special. “The position is not one much sought by county ratepayers, and it shows a commendable spirit on the part of Mrs. Black that she has accepted nomination. 1 predict that Mrs. Black will be with us for the rest of her life,” said the chairman of the Cook Hospital Board, Mr. M. f. Trafford, addressing a welcome to the new member of the board, Mrs. £. R. Black, at yesterday afternoon's meeting. Mrs. Black succeeds the late Mr. 11. Kenway as the Uawa County representative on the Cook Hospital Board.
