SUFFOLK SHEEP IMPORTS
FAT LAMB TRADE SOUTHLAND DEVELOPMENT The arrival of the Wattaki at the Bluff .recently with a consignment of Suffolk sheep was of considerable interest to Southland breeders, who are at present developing sheep studs, especially for breeding sires for producing suitable fat lambs for the export trade. With tire arrival of this shipment of over 40 sheep, iit is understood that there are ito-day more Suflollcs in Southland than- in the rest of New Zealand. .The importation was arranged: through the stud stock de* partment of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, and included 30 Suffolk ewes and one rami hogget 'bred by the Skate Research Farm at Werribee, Victoria, ’on account of Mr, J. F. Scott, and 10 Suffolk ewes and one ram which have been purchased by Mr. J’ohn T. Gibb.
