CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS
THREE PERSONS INJURED ITUTT ROAD COLLISIONS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Three persons were injured and three motor cars were damaged in a complicated series of accidents on the Hutt road about 7.45 p.m. on Saturday. Mi'. L. W. St Clair, a chairmaker, 63 Adelaide street, Petone, is in hospital with an injured back, Mrs. E. Mitchell, Woburn road, Lower Hutt and Miss O. Mitchell of the same address, were taken to the hospital but were able to go home after treatment. A car travelling northwards towards Petone and traffic moving southwards met in a glancing collision which slewed the north-bound car of! its course and caused it to plunge into a lane of south-bound traffic. There it struck broadside on a “baby” car occupied by two women who were injured, overturning it and damaging it extensively. The second collision damaged severely the front end of the north-bound car, but the car that it collided with first was not extensively damaged. The occupants of the two cars that first collided were not injured. Mr. St. Clair was knocked down by a car passing the place after the collisions. The three damaged cars on the "road immediately caused a blockage of traffic and. no traffic officer or police constable being present, Mr. St. Clair who had an electric torch, was directing drivers past the spot. The accidents happened south of Ngahauranga where the road was widened several years ago and where no reconstruction is being undertaken, as is the case north of Ngahauranga.
