ME. MEREDITH’S POST SERVICES RECOGNISED The honour of -being elected a vice-president of the hew Zealand Chess Association was conferred recently upon Mr. L. Meredith, pastpresident of the Gisborne Chess Club. Mr. Meredith has been a zealous supporter of the game and members of the club are gratified that his interest has been recognised by the association. The club has warmly congratulated Mr. Meredith on his appointment. The election took place at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Association in Wellington this month. A -sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. E. H. Severne, Nelson, J. C. Mcßae, Hamilton, and A. T. Craven, Auckland, was set up to improve the conditions governing play for the Blackburn Cup. Children’s Tournaments In the children's chess tournaments at present being conducted in Gisborne the following are leading percentages cf wins scored by those who have played four games and over:— * Boys (14 entries).—Roy Smaill, 100: Douglas MacGregor, 93; Des. Robinson, 84; Llovd Dennis, 38; Tom Lawn, 34; T. Phillips, 29. Roy Church won both his games, while Justin Phillips won one game. Girls (.12 entries).—Moira Jolly, 87J; Phyllis Bartlett, 80; Frances Mulligan, 60; Erica Robertson, 60; Margaret Strawbridge, 60; Barbara Robinson, 50. Annette Shields drew with Erica Robertson, while Beryl James won her game with Barbara Robinson.
