SINGAPORE DEFENCES DUTCH INDIES’ POWER (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. There is a very evident state of preparedness at Singapore and also noticeable activity in strengthening the defences at Java and in the Dutch East Indies generally, according to Mr. C. W. Rickard, .a director of the Odlin Timber and Hardware Company, who has just returned from. 10 weeks’ tour of the Near East. He and 1 his wife were iin .Singapore when a practice “black-out” took place.
