VETERINARY OFFICER

FAREWELL FUNCTION DEPARTURE FOR ENGLAND Members of tire Gisborne staff of the Department of Agriculture assembled yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr. E, J. Simmons, veterinary supervisor, who has retired from the. department on account of ill health and who has arranged to return to England, leaving Gisborne on Saturday.

On behalf of the staff, Mr. 11. Hills, supervising meat inspector, made a presentation of a typical New Zealand rug, and hoped that the rug would remind Mr. Simmons of his associates in New Zealand. During the time Mr. Simmons had been in Gisborne, he had become popular with members of the staff and also among the farming community, and Mr. Hills assured Mr. Simmons that his colleagues greatly regretted Jus departure. They trusted that he would be soon restored to health.

Other members of the staff also spoke, extending their best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. -Simmons. Mr. R. E. Alexander, Hawera, has been appointed to fill Mr. Simmons' place. Mr. Alexander was in Gisborne for a time last year after Mr. P. Haugh’s departure and before the arrival of Mr. Simmons.
