OBITUARY
MR. J). K. TORRANCE The death has occurred in Dunedin of Mr. David Kirkwood Torrance, aged 74. In his younger days he was a well-known Rugby footballer, representing Otago on numerous occasions between 1888 and 1895. Later he acted as a referee and also served on the executive of the Otago Rugby Union. ever, for a week later he left town. It is said this was his first sea voyage. Trip by Air Now and then he would make a run up country with his taxi driver friends, arid he knew many of the North Island towns. He made a trip by air, too, a few years ago at the expense of his friends. Paddy Was extraordinarily intelligent. For Ipsty ce. he knew trail! lights, and would not cross the street until the green light showed. For this reason he was well known to the Wellington traffic officers. Two weeks ago Paddy fell ill. Taxi drivers sent him Jo a home for dogs, but he started to fret, and when one of the men went to the home with his car Paddy immediately left in it. Later he wandered to the_ wharves and took refuge in No. 1 shed. A veterinary surgeon attended to him, but the cold snap was apparently too much for him. ,i ■■■■
