INTEREST IN HISTORY

“A feature of the year’s work has been the large demand for New Zealand history material,” stated the chief librarian, and director, Mr. John Barr, in his annual report covering the work of the Auckland public libraries to the City Council. He said the increase in this section was due to ithe interest brought about by the approach of the Dominion and city's centennial. The files of early New Zealand newspapers, of which the library had ,a large number, had been in constant use, and the need was shown, for a snccinl section for housing the New Zealand collection.
