BOYCOTT OF REGISTER
AUSTRALIAN MAN-POWER UNIONS DETERMINED ■ Eloc.'Tei Co^yrichi—United Press Assn.,* (Reed. July 15, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 14. The Sun newspaper says that attempts were made to-day in Melbourne and Perth to induce the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies, to arrange a conference with the Aus■trialian Council of Trades’ Unions to discuss with them the proposed boycott of the rational register of man-power.
The Trades Union’s executive wants legislative and not verbal assurances that the register will not be converted into industrial and .military conscription.
All icoal mines in the eastern States are likely to be idle on Monday when stop-work meetings will be' held ‘to .protest against the register.
The Federal Attorney-General, Mr. W. M. Hughes declared in Sydney to-day: “Those who object to defending Australia within Australia are unfit for free citizenship.”
Broken Hill miners declare' that, thov will refuse to fill in the ofiicuil forms and intend to bum them.
