This Morning’s Frosl A frost of 3.3 degrees was experienced in Gisborne this morning. Gisborne Poultry Praised Praise .for the standard of poultry exhibited at the Poverty Bay Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Association’s show yesterday was given by Mr. E. C. Jarrett, Government poultry instructor for the Auckland Province who is visiting Gisborne. Mr. Janet! said that the standard of the exhibits was better than anything he had seen 'm, Auckland and well up to the standard of any other of the shows in the North Island. The exhibits were excellently staged, with plenty of light, and the facilities provided were among the best he had seen. Air Force Candidates An examination board comprising Group-Captain L. M. Isitt, A.D.C., and Squadron-Leader L. Croker, R.A.F., visited Gisborne overnight, and this morning examined candidates for short-service commissions in the Royal Air Force and for enlistment in the ground staff of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. There were four candidates for commissions, and 22 district applicants for various grades of ground-staff enlistment in New Zealand. The members of the board left at 11 a.m. for Wairoa, on route to Hastings, where they will continue their programme of examinations 'this evening.

Whale Caught by Wanganui Man "You may not believe it, few people will, but I once caught a whale,” said Mr. J. Siddells, of Wanganui and formerly of Gisborne, recently, commenting on the fact that a whale had been seen near the vessel Westmoreland in the Wanganui roadstead. Describing his experience, Mr. Siddells said that when in the police force at Napier he had been on duty near the wharf in the inner harbour about midnight. That clay three whales had been seen 'off shore. “I heard a great deal of commotion,” Mr. Siddells said, “the water seemed to be foaming a good deal, and I went to investigate. One of 'the whales had drifted in. I obtained the assistance of the mate on board the vessel Kiwi, and between us we managed to tie the whale up. it was dead when the tide went out, and we sold the catch for £lO.

Motorists Fined For having no warrants of fitness for motor vehicles, Cecil Clinker Newby and Esther Trafl'ord were each fined 10s and costs when they appeared before Mr. E. L. Ormond. J.P., in the Police Court this morning. On the application of Detective-Sergeant R. Waterson, who prosecuted, a remand until Monday was granted.
