DEMAND FOR APOLOGY
SEA CAPTAIN’S REMARK FEDERATION OF LABOUR WORKERS EESEXTUEXT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand Federation of Labour has passed a motion protesting against the statement alleged to have been made by Captain Davey to the effect that “nobody was working in this blasted country.”
The federation requests an apology to the workers failing which, it is stated, the workers affiliated to the organisation will take such action as may be deemed necessary to compel the cessation of unwarranted attacks on workers. Captain iDavey .is away from New Zealand at present, but 'before leaving on his trip to Sydney this week, he is stated to have denied responsibility for the statement attributed to him. The general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, when seen last evening, said it appeared clear that Captain Davey had been discussing the trouble caused by stowaways on his vessel, and his remarks had been directed against them and not against the workers.
