TWENTY-SIXTH SHOW
POULTRY ASSOCIATION ENTRIES TOTAL 1014 The Poverty Bay Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Association will hold its twenty-sixth annual show in the City Hall 'tp-morrow and Saturday. The committee is well satisfied with this year’s'entries, especially with the small cage birds. The latter section is being conducted by the Poverty Bay Budtgerigar and Cage Bird Club and great credit is due to the executive for the number of enitries, especially ini the budgerigar section and the Australian finches section. The judge of the club’s section will be Mr. Robert Forster, Hastings. The pigeon entry is next in numbers 'and two welL known judges from Foretell have been engaged. Amongst the fancy pigeons the largest number of birds are in the tumbler fantail and jacobin classes. There are one or two new exhibits, such as ice pigeons, lace lantails, black fantails and muffed tumblers. , AIT of these varieties have been benched in Gisborne previously, but not for some years.
Of the fowl classes the big game section is the largest for some years, with a total of 48 game birds. The Orpingtons and Leghorns share the honours for the largest entry of one variety, there being 47 Orpingtons and 49 Leghorns. The bantams are slightly up on last year, competition being particularly strong for game bantams. The ducks are few, but each year sees that section gradually growing. The comparison of entries is as follows; the ip.3B figures being given in parenthesis:—Cage Birds, 400 (312); pigeons, 284 (259): fowls. 250 (259); bantams, 56 (55); ducks, 18 (8); total, 1014 (893).
