BOYS' AND GIRLS’ CLUBS
SWEET PEA SHOWS SOME SUGGESTED CLASSES ASSISTANCE FROM ADULTS By “Totara” An inquiry has been received about the classes which you might have at Ipn c,weet oca club displays in the spring. Here are a number from which you can take -a choice: (1) Champion bloom. (2) Best six blooms, two of each colour; or eight blooms, two. of eacn colour, if you have four varieties. (3) Best arranged vase of sweet peas and some foliage. (4) Best decorated vase or bowl of spring flowers. This would be just tor the decorative part, and you could flowers from vour mother, perhaps. It would give a chance, too, to -girls who have no sweet peas, to take pant in your show. (5) Posy or buttonhole. C 6) Decorated vase of native leaves, flowers or berries.
(7) Most original decorated vase. Some Work for the Clubs Very soon now your dubs will want to decide about these classes.
Then you may want some assistance about the arrangement of vases. Soma clubs last year asked mcmbeis of 'the 'ladies’ gardening circles m the different districts, or someone interested in this work, to give a demonstration to the club membeis a week or <two before the show. Hus was a very great help, and “Totara feels -sure .that many ladies will be only too pleased to assist again, il they -are asked. Garden Circle Shows “Totara” understands that the Gisborne Ladies’ Gardening Circle is having a flower show in the spring and that ft is including some sections for boys and girls. So have a look at the schedule when it arrives, as there is sure -to be something in which you can fake part. A schedule will -be sent to the schools shortly. Care, of Sweet Peas Plants should be quite big now. Keep -the soil nicely worked up, and do not forget to feed the plants with £ omc liouid farm manure, if you can get some. A light dressing, now and ihen, of superphosphate and sulphate of ammonia -also would help them along. n , , j ‘Make sure (they are well staked and, if you are pruning your plants, me that it is done regularly. _ Some nates on this work were in the Herald a few weeks ago.
