BEST PRICES OF SEASON

FAT SHEEP AND CATTLE MUTTON RISES UP TO 4/BEEF ADVANCES 15/(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The stock sale at Addington yesterday was the best of the season for fat sheep and fat cattle. There was an increase in the store sheep entry and a good demand for nearly all sheep. A feature of the store sheep section was the sale of an extra good pen of two-tooth Romney ewes, which made 32s (id. A small lot of four-year-olds sold at 17s 3d. A truck lot of four and six-tooths made 11s Cd. A truck lot of ewe hoggets made 13s. A small lot of IGO fat lambs was entered. There was a keen sale, butchers paying to 8d per lb. for the best. Lighter sorts also sold freely. A smaLL entry of 4000 fat sheep again met with a good sale from the outset. Butchers’ prime wethers were up on the rates of last week by 3s to 4s a head, and lighter sorts by about 2s. Better quality ewes improved up to 2s 6d, and lighter ewes 2s. The main demand was for prime sheep, which sold at the best prices of the year. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 43s Id, prime heavy 31s Gd to 375, prime medium 2Gs Gd to 30s, light 15s to 21s; extra prime heavy ewes to 33s 4d, prime heavy 24s Gd to 275, prime medium 19s Gd to 23s Gd, and light to 16s. Fat Cattle in Demand There was an entry of 475 fa* cattle, compared with 485 last week. The market opened briskly, with an advance of 15s a head on last week for better classes of steers and heifers The most finished cattle made more than 40s per 1001 b., and tops another 2s Gd a head. Secondary steers an.' better cow beef sold at 3Gs to 38s por 1001 b. Extra prime heavy steers made to £l9 2s Gd, prime heavy £ls 5s to £l6 12s Gd, prime medium £l3 10s to £l4 17s Gd, light to £lO ss; extra prime heifers to £l3 10s, prime £lO ,10s to £ll 15s, medium £8 to £9 15s, and light to £7 ss; extra prime cows to £l2 17s Gd, prime £8 10s to £lO 10s, medium £G 10s to £B, and light to £G ss.

There was a full entry of porkers and some exceptionally good quality was included. Prices opened equal to last week, but towards the end of the sale there was an easing of 2s to 3s a head. Choppers came forward in medium numbers, and prices showed no change on those of last week. Baconcrs came forward in small numbers, but values were easier all round, Porkers made £1 19s Gd to £2 18s Gd, the average price being GJd to 7.{d per lb., and baconcrs £2 17s Gd to £4 18s Gd, the average price being G.',d to 7d per lb.
