SHIP’S KEYS STOLEN
DISCHARGED CADET PROBATION GRANTED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The excuse was given by Joseph Spencer, aged 18. a ship’s cadet, why he had stolen an electric lilt control key and a brass door key from the Awatea, was that he wanted them as souvenirs, said Detective-Sergeant Doyle, in prosecuting in the Police Court to-day. Had the articles not been recovered said the detective-sergeant, considerable inconvenience would have been, entailed to the ship’s company. When located the accused had the articles in his possession. He was discharged from the ship yesterday tor drunkenness.
The magistrate, Mr. J. L. Stout, admitted him to probation for 12 months.
