MR. JAMES McILVENEY SERVICE TO N.Z. POLICE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. After a long illness Mr. James McIlveney, formerly a superintendent in the New Zealand Police Force, died yesterday. He was 70 years of age. He was superintendent at Dunedin until his retirement in 19.74. Mr. Mcllveney was born at Kurnara, Westland, and was a member of the Permanent Artillery before he joined the police force at Auckland in 1895. He became a detective-ser-geant, and was for many years stationed at Newton, whence he was transferred to Wellington. After spending six years there he was promoted to the rflnk of chief detective at Christchurch. Four years later he returned to Auckland. After a series of further promotions and transfers he eventually became a superintendent, in which capacity he was sent to Dunedin. Upon his retirement in April, 1934, he left the South Island and came to live in Auckland. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.

The death has occurred at Pairere, Cambridge, of Mr. Harry Storey Wyatt, a well-known Waikato farmer and sportsman, and uncle of the prominent English cricketer, R. E. S Wyatt, at the age of 69.

An old resident of South Canterbury, Mrs. E. E. Hammond, has died in Leeston. Born at Temuka in 1857, Mrs. Hammond was the daughter of Mr. J. H. Dean, one of the earliest settlers of Canterbury.
