RUGBY AFTERMATH
PEACE GESTURE FAILS TWO MAORIS FINED (Special to tho Herald.) TOKOMARU BAY, this day. An altercation arising out of a "peace gesture” on the part of one of the parties concerned resulted in two footballers, Puro Coleman and He mi Pahau, appearing before Messrs. Stafford and H. H. Fairlie, I.P.'s, in Tokomaru Bay yesterday. During a Rugby match in Tokomaru Bay last Saturday Coleman and another player came to blows, but were unnoticed by the referee. After the game, Coleman went to the other man concerned in the incident on the field to make amends, but the other nlayer would not give him a hearing, Coleman then striking the other man and commencing to fight with him. Pahau, a team-mate of Coleman's, at‘empted to go to his mate's assistance ind, when restrained, made use of obscene language. Appearing in court, Coleman was charged with assault and Pahau with disorderly conduct and using obscene language. Both pleaded guilty and Coleman was convicted and fined £2. Pahau wag convicted and fined £2 for using obscene language and on the second charge was fined 10s.
