GOSSIPS SILENCED

VICAR’S NOVEL METHOD LONDON, June 1. Parishioners who repeat harmful gossip to the Rev. A. W. Beak, bachelor vicar of North Sheen, Surrey, England, are silenced by their own malice. When he leaves home for his parish visits, he always carries a little notebook. Somebody pours out a stream of gossip. Out comes the notebook, the vicar jots down the main points of what he has heard, and blandly invites the gossiper to sign his or her statement. , He always produces a pencil as well sc there can be no excuse for not signing. “And I always find it works wonders,” he said.

"People shut up like oysters. They never sign, but they take back everything they say and try to get away from me as soon as they can. “Gossip, grows, if left alone, like a weed, but I have found this method an almost certain cure. It is so simple. I advocate it to every one troubled with gossip.
