WELLINGTON EVACUATION
WAR EMERGENCY ROUTE NG-AHAURANG A GORG E (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A claim tha+ when the new Ngahauranga Gorge highway war, completed Wellington could be evacuated in less than a day in the event of an invasion. was made by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, in the course of an address to men engaged on the construction of the road. ° He said the highway would form a very valuable part in New Zealand’s defence, though no one wanted to see it used that way. Mr. Semple said within six weeks all the earthmoving will have been done and tnc big job would require only finishing off.
