WATER AND SEWERAGE

NON-RETICULATED AREA APR LIC AT 10 N RK F USED An application to secure water and sewerage connection with sections in an unrcticulatcd portion of the borough, namely, Graham road, Haiti, was refused by the Gisborne Borough Council last night. The request came before the previous meeting of the council from Mr. R. Stephens, it being pointed out that adjacent sections had received the services.

“Although the sewer and water mains,” the committee reported, “are laid in Graham road, the committee, in view of the present acute position regarding the water supply and the large number of new buildings being erected in the reticulated portion of the borough, is unable to recommend that the application be granted. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., said that if the application was granted the council might have 1o face a further 20 applications for connection with the wa<er.

“Can we stand it?” Mr. Coleman asked. Mr. R. Morse: Yes.

The Mayor: 1 say No. Cr. H. E. Maude pointed out that more State houses were being erected and they would severely test the water supply. Cr. F. Tolcrton: It is an unfortunaT case. He was led to believe that he could get water, because water was r>-,nnccted to sections on either side ot him. The report was adopted.
