“UNFAIR ATTITUDE”
BOROUGH COUNCIL CLAIM CRICKETERS’ VT EW POINT No action is to be taken by the Gisborne Borough Council in regard to a request from the Poverty Bay Cricket Association for a reduction of the council's claim for £lO towards the cost of preparing wickets on the Childers Roacl Reserve last season.
Previously, the association wrote asking the council to remit the amount, because the association had received no benefit, but the council took the stand that the association should not go back on the agreement it had made with the council. In the letter before the council last night, the association mainta ! n»d th~ the claim lor £lO was unjustified, and made an offer of £2 to reimburse the council for work done to tile wickets. Work arranged with the engineer was not carried out, with the result that it was Impossible to play on tiro grounds.
“Tli is matter appears so far to have been viewed in the light that the association is either seeking relief or endeavouring to avoid its obligations,” the letter added. “This is not the ease. My association feels mosl strongly that the council lias no claim and that, misapprehending the posi tion, is adopting -an unfair attitude to my association.” The Mayor. Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., said that no new ground was covered in the letter, and on his motion no action was taken.
