AMATEUR BOXING

CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM JTEEXEY AND MATY NOVICE TOURNAMENT Two boxers to take part in the New Zcialand amateur boxing championshiJps, to be held in Invercargill on September 12, 13 and 14, were selected at a meeting cf the Gisborne Boxing Association held last evening. The men selected are Darcy Heeney, the present holder of the New Zealand amateur welterweight title, and Tom Batv, a youthful boxer who made a promising debut in the championships last year. An early announcement of the selection of these two fighters has been made in order that, in view of the lack of suitable opponents, the men will be able to carry out special training. Other possible members of the team are under consideration, and their form in future bouts will decide their chances of selection. The association decided to stage a tournament for novice boxers, and the fixture will be held in the Physical Fitness Club at an early date.
