TROUBLED WORLD’S NEED CHRISTIAN SCIENCE VIEW Thousands' of Christian Scientists, meeting in Boston last month, challenged a troubled world to change its perspective from a material to a spiritual basis ir. its search fer release from pressing economic and political problems. The occasion was the annual meeting of the Mother Church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, which was filled at an early hour right up to the centre balcony under the very dome of the great edifice. Through an entire afternoon’s round of addresses and reports from the fieid, the power of the Christ, Truth, to lift individuals above the ills of human sense was acknowledged and- this same spiritual power was recommended for .the heal Ling of the nations and the establishment of a permanent world peace. Reports recorded the formation of 21 new branch churches overseas, 12 of them being in England, also 25 new branch organisations in North America. In Africa and Australia 32 societies had raised their status to that of Churches during the year and two new organisations had' been formed. In all, GBB practitioners and 83 nurses were officially recognised during the year. In educational fields nine new university organisations 'became recognised units of the Christian Science movement. Mr. George Shaw Cook, of Brookline, Mass., was elected president for the ensuing year to succeed Mr. Ralph H. Knapp, of Needham. Mr. Edward L. R'Lpley, of Brookline, and Mr. Ezra W. Palmer, of Marshfield, were re-elected treasurer and clerk, respectively. As incoming .president, Mr. Cook directed attention to the place that Mary Baker Eddy holds in the movement as discoverer and founder of Christian Science. Genuine appreciation cf the revelation of Christian Science, hie said, can come only~~ through a proper appreciation of the Revelator. Other speakers alluded to world unresit as indicating the need and growing demand for spiritual inspiration and refreshment.
