EVENS FOR OLD BOYS B

MARIST DEFEATED 11—0 ONE TRY IN PAST GAME PINE JUNIOR TUSSLE Old Boys B . llpts. Marist 0 The prospect of a hard, fast game between Old Boys B and Marist in the junior grade drew a large crowd to the Oval early on Saturday afternoon, and the match realised all that the crowd had anticipated from it. Old Boys won by 11 points to nil, eight of their points being from goal-kicks, off H. Sebire’s boot.

Both teams were well wound up, Marist having the advantage of a previous victory over their opponents, and thus being two points up in the championship ladder. Old Boys B were the heavier team, and made excellent use of their forwards, though they did not get the ball in the majority of the scrums, the Marist hooking being superior.

The winners’ backs were chieily useful in defence, their tackling being just as deadly as it had to be to stop the Marist backs.

Tile crowd saw some splendid loose work by both packs, and several lightning runs by the Marist backs, who looked possible scorers several times when F. Lee and R. Friar went through. They always failed at the last bit. however, usually because of lack of support.

All the scoring was done in the first half, H. Sebirc kicking a penalty goal in the first few minutes, and Russell scoring a good try shortly afterwards, which Scbire converted Another penalty by Sebire brought the score up to 11 points in favour of Old Boys B.

After the turn-around, Marist did not. make the best use of the advantage of the wind, and failed to improve their position. An Old Boys B player was ordered oil’ for unnecessarily rough play, and Dunlop, the Marist half-back, was injured and replaced. Mr. V. Norman was the referee.
