NO CHANGES ON LADDER

Old Boys Narrowly Avert Defeat LATE RECOVERY BEATS CELTIC SENIORS Marist Given Good Fight By H. 5.0.8. SATURDAY'S senior Rugby matches in Gisborne did not affect the Kj positions of the teams, both Marist, the leaders, and Old Boys, next dotvn the ladder, having won their respective matches against 11.5.0.8. and Celtic. Marist were given a good, hard tussle by the ex-students, on No. .1 ground, and though they had a good margin of points at tire finish, they again had M. O'Brien’s accuracy in place-kicking to thank lor a good proportion of their score. Old Boys snatched victory against Celtic by a late recovery, during which their play reached senior standard for the first time in the match. Their earlier display had been disappointing, and a fairly scratch Celtic team had had all the honours of the meeting, until Old Boys came to light at last. The junior competition provided a firstt-elass game between Marist and Old Boys B, the latter revenging their earlier defeat by Marist and gaining level terms with that team in the championship of their grade. Other junior games were of a good standard, and third, fourth and fifth grade fixtures all held interest for their followers. Results of all games played under the juristiction of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union on Saturday were as under:— Seniors Juniors Old Boys 14, Celtic 9. Old Boys B 11. Marist 0. Marist 21. H. 5.0.8. 12. Old Boys A 3. H. 5.0.8. 3. THIRDS High School 40, Rovers 10. H. 5.0.8. 11, Celtic 3. FOURTHS Marist 3, Old Boys 3. Marist 23, Old Boys 3. Gisborne H.S. 3. Wairua K.S. 3. FIFTHS Marist 1 it.
