GISBORNE WINNERS j FOUR REPRESENTATIVES TWO RETURNED WINNERS NOTES ON TRENTHAM By “Trenton" Although Gisborne had a small representation at the Wellington meeting, only two of the runners failed to pay their way. Sly Fox ran well below his best form, but his owner would be more than compensated by the success of his other candidate, Blonde Princess, who scored at very remunerative odds.
Gold Ballad won easily at his only start. Whakao never appeared to get going in his race, and finished a long way back. However, it was only his second attempt over hurdles and, taking a | line through his Damievirke running, j he is bound to improve later on. Net Nominated Ned Cuttle, who won very easily af Treritham, was not nominated for the Winter Cup at Eiccarton. The same applies to another Trenlham winner in Jack Tar, Former Local Hoi'ses Two winners at Trentham. Bridegroom and Hunting Royal, were trained in Gisborne until recently. Hunting Royal is under the care of trainer D. Ducker, who is now located at Hastings, Showed Plenty of Speed Making his first appearance since the New Year in the Stewards' Handicap at Trenthum, Majority clearly demonstrated that he still retains his speed. On Saturday he made no race of the open sprint, and it appears as if the handicapper will have no trouble in finding his top-weight for the Winter Cup. Hurdler Doing Well Reports from Hastings slate that Peter Beckford is training on in a satisfactory manner and looks an improved horse. He did not run at Trenlham, but will probably be a runner at Eiccarton. Well-bred Youngsters The name Salvation has been registered for the bay filly by Phnleror. Bay from Saxon Saint. She is owned by Mr. G. C. Glenn and is a halfsister to Clarion Call. A bay gelding by Ringmaster from Midinelte will race as Ring-craft, and one by Posterity from Curtain will be known as Curtail. This pair will race in the colours of Mr. G. M. Currie. Failed to Slav
Although All Irish made a good showing for over two miles and a half in the Wellington Steeplechase, he failed to stay on as well as usual and dropped right out of the contest ove" the last half-mile. On Saturday Iw fell in Ihc July Steeples, an event he won last year, and it appeared as if he had excellent prospects of success when he came to grief.
