TENSION IN TYROL
GERMANS AND ITALIANS THOUSANDS LEAVE ZONE (Reed. July 6, noon.) BERLIN, July 5. Officials describe the repatriation of 300,000 former German-Austrian citizens from the Tyrol as the “biggest mass migration for centuries.’’ It is understood that the step was thought desirable because of the existing friction between Germans and Italians throughout the 'area. Tens of thousands of Czjechs are also being moved to production centres' in Germany where there is a shortage of skilled labour and attempts are also being made to bring back to Germany minority groups from Hungary 'and Rumania. It is estimated in Berlin (that GOOO South Tyroleans have already crossed to Germany.
