RAIL TUNNEL FINISHED

TURAKINA DEVIATION PROGRESS OF WORKS / (Per Press Association.)^ WANGANUI, this day. Denlair tunnel, on the OkoiaTurakir.a deviation, which was started in October, 1937, was finished yesterday and the tunnellers -will -be drafted to other public works. The time allowed to finish this -was September. A (smaller tunnel at the southern end of -Denlair will be finished within a month. Sixty chains -of the Turakina tunnel have -been driven and there -are still 40 chains -to go. It iis estimated that, this work will take a year. Work on formation and -cuttings is nearing the end. when the -population of Denlair camp will be further reduced. Pile driving for the railway bridge across the Wangaehu River is under way. The Turakina bridge has not yet been started.
