FARMERS' RESENTMENT
TAKING OF RURAL LANDS STATE MARKET GARDENS DIRECT ACTION SUGGESTED (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ this day. There is every evidence of a determined struggle on the part of those farmers of Kuku affected to hold on to the land which the Government proposes to take over in order to establish a vegetable fanning community. The’ .matter Was brought before the Manawatu provincial executive of t!ie Farmers’ Union in Palmerston North yesterday when the following resolution was carried: “That this executive very strongly protests against the arbitrary manner in which the confiscation of the Kuku farm lands has been brought about. We feel that a very serious principle is at stake and that this action of the Government vitally affects every farmer of New Zealand. We state emphatically that if the security of tenure of farm lands is to be interfered with in this manner, the union should take every step, even including direct action, to put a stop to such treatment of farmers."
