STRONG VEAL DEMAND SHEEP AND PIGS RISE WESTFIELD MARKET (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Prime quality cow and heijjpr bed' improved under a keen demand for a short entry at the Westfield stock sales yesterday. Poorer sorts and ox beef were firm. Extra choice ox beef made 33s per 1001 b.; choice and prime,, 30s. to 325; prime cow and heifer, 30s to 325: boner and rough, 20s to 20s. Extra heavy prime steers made from £l3 to £l4 15s; heavy, £ll 10s to £l2 15s; medium. £lO 15s to £ll 15s; light, £lO to £lO 15s. Extra heavy prime cows and heifers, £8 10s to £ll 2s Gd; heavy, £7 to £8 ss; medium, £6 to £8 ss; light -and unfinished, £4 to £G 10s. The veal supply was short and values rose sharply in consequence, prime quality selling very well. Runners made from £3 to £G 12s Gd; heavy vealers, £4 8s to £5 6s; medium, £3 10s to £4; light, £2 10s to £3 10s; smaller, £1 15s to £2 lGs; small, lGs to £2; bofeby and rough, 2s to £1 10s. Pork was in short supply in a pig sale in which small numbers were entered. There was a sharp rise in price, ibaconers remaining firm. Choppers made from £2 to £4 7s; heavy baconers, £4 2s to £4 10s: medium, £3 14s to £4; light, £3 Gs to £3 12s; heavy porkers, £3 to £3 7s: medium. £2 12s to £2 19s; light, £1 19s to £2 13s; stores, £1 7s to £2 3s ; slips, 17s to 225; weaners, 10s to 17s. Baconers averaged GJd per lb., and porkers Gid to 7.',d per lb. A heavy entry of sheep sold at fully late rates, ewes showing a marked upward trend. Extra heavy prime wethers made 28s to 30s; heavy, 21s to 22s Gd: medium, 18s to 20s 9d; light, 14s to 17s 9d; unfinished, 11s to 14s Gel: extra heavy prime ewes, 22s to 24s Gd; heavy. 21s to 22s Gd; medium, 18s to 20s 9d; light, 14s to 17s 9d ; unfinished. 5s to 13s Gd. Lambs, in less than average numbers, made late rates, prime making 17s to 25s Gd, and others Gs to 10s 3d.
