The probability of • horse-shoeing becoming a lost art was mentioned at the annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the 'New Zealand Racing Owners, Breeders and Trainers’ Association recently, when it was stated that there were at present, as far as could be ascertained, only four blacksmiths’ apprentices in the Dominion. Members expressed concern over the position and emphasised the 'necessity for some action being taken to encourage more interest in the trade, which it was 'considered would still continue to take its part in the development of New Zealand.
