Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: A very deep depression is centred near Auckland and is moving eastwards, while an anticyclone is moving on to the South Tasman from the west. Forecast: Winds from between south-east and south-west, rising to gale force generally, probably to strong gale force in places from Nelson and Marlborough northwards. Seas: In New Zealand waters, high on the west coast' and offshore north of East Cape; elsewhere rough and rising. Eastern Tasman: Southerly to south-westerly gales, with high seas; conditions more severe,' however, in ithe northern than the southern portion. Weather: Squally and changeable, with heavy passing showers in most places. Temperatures cold, with hail in places and snow extending to parts ol the lower levels in the South Island.
