Criticism of Government
Sir, —As “Citizen” is retiring from this ‘controversy may I, before doing likewise, be permitted to reply to his assertions? I n the first place I asked “How couid this ceaseless (and often senseless) criticism possibly do any good and how could it fail to do other than stagnate trade?” "Citizen" did not attempt to give an answer, but instead he asked me a question to which I gave a straightforward answer. There the matter should have rested, but he then attempted to discredit portion of my reply and also referred to conditions overseas under Labour Governments and suggested that “continued progress" had taken place ever since their removal. 1 then quoted League of Nations and other , figures to. prove the fallacy of l his assertions about the so-called “continued progress.” After he himself had brought in | the subject of overseas Governments! he claimed he was unable to pin me, down and that I flitted all over the! place. Having introduced the overseas controversy into the question, he now accuses me of seeking refuge in England and New South Wales. I will leave your readers to judge who it was that (flitted all over the place and who it was tljat sought refuge in New South Wples. LABOUR.
