July 3, 12 noon.) LONDON, July 2. A Whitehall spokesman stated today that if the Danzig Senate voted to- include the Free City in the Reich and Poland marched into Danzig as a result,- ‘Poland would- foe-supported-■ to the hilt by Britain and France. “Let there he not the faintest doubt about that,” he said. Air Marshal Lord Trenchard, in a speecli at Stirling, said: “The time has come to say this: Living under continual threats of aggression must stop. We have had enough of it. Britain has given this way and -that in order to preserve peace, but there comes a time when the people say: ‘This must stop.’

“That time has come now. Not only do we mean to fight if there is any more aggression, but we have the power now to do so. Our army, navy and air force are more powerful than they have ever been in peacetime. Woe betide those who do not believe it.”

Sir Stafford Cripps, backing the speech by the Foreign Secretary, Viscount Halifax, said: “We will not tolerate domination by others, the loss of our liberties or dictation in our affairs, and if such is attempted we now are ready as a united nation to defend ourselves and to that end we will gather all the allies and resources available.”

Manifesto I-’or German People

A manifesto addressed to -the -people of Germany has been Issued by tire National Council of Labour. It .tells ithe German workers l that Herr Hitler is encircling himself as we<ll as them, and that the British people ih-ave no wish to- encircle Germany.

It says -fhaft -the familiar process of warlike preparations, lying propaganda and stimulated disturbance is being operated against Poland in respect of Danzig.

“You must face .the fact that, if this is -continued, the result will be war,” the message adds.

The appeal of the National Council of Labour will be broadcast from secret Continental stations. It iwill be distributed throughout Poland and also through underground stations tbroughout Germany. The British Broadcasting Company will broadcast it in German, French and Italian. It is headed “Why Kill Each Other.”

It uncompromisingly supports Viscount Halifax, declaring that Herr •Hitler is encircling himself and adds: "For everybody, -butter is better than guns.”
