TRAFFIC RAID RESULT
■LARGE CROP OF FINES WARRANTS OF FITNESS As a result of the traffic raid on June 10, a number of motorists appeared before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in. the Magistrate’s Court to-day charged .principally with having either n 6 drivers’ license or no warrant of fitness. On the information of the police Cyril Arthur Mackley (Mr. L. T. Burnard) was fined __ £1 and costs for failing to give way to traffic approaching on his right. Thomas Roy Andrew was charged with having no warrant of fitness for a car and also with having no driver’s license, and was fined 10s and costs on the first charge and 5s and costs on the second. 'Similar charges were preferred against Charles Edward Ivess (Mr. E. T. Brosnahan), who was fined like amounts.
For having no drivers’ licenses, Dave Grace, Thomas Wells, Ernest Somervell and Olwyn Hester Graham were each fined 10s and .costs. For having no warrants of fitness Ellen Thomas (Mr. A. P. (Blair), Thomas Henry Hudson and Wallace Stewart (Mr. G. J. Jeune) were each fined 10s and costs. James R. Weston and Frank Newton were each fined 10s and costs for having no warrant's of fitness for vehicles, they were driving, charges of aiding and abetting in the offences, preferred against Bignell and Holmes and the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company, Limited, respective employers of the two defendants, being dismissed. On the information of the Transport Department's inspector, Mr. R. Metcalfe, Garrock Howell was charged with exceeding the speed limit in a heavy duty vehicle and was fined £2 and costs.
In charges preferred by the borough traffic inspector, Mr. T. G. Nowell. Walter S. Dudson, Rangi Kopuaroa and Charles Otto Hansen were each fined 5s and costs for having no drivers’ licenses. Colin Isabeth, Frederick Dawe, Francis Pollard, Charles A. Smith and James Thaiti were each fined 10s and costs. For the same offence George E. Taylor was fined £1 and costs. George Shaskey was ordered to pay costs for having no rear reflector on his cycle. Robert Green and William Bolger were fined 5s each for having no cycle lights.
